Delhi Government Introduces ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ Initiative to Empower Individuals with Disabilities

Delhi Government Introduces ‘Sugamya Sahayak’

The Delhi government recently launched the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ initiative, a scheme aimed at empowering individuals with benchmark disabilities. Announced by Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand, this initiative is designed to improve the mobility and capabilities of persons with disabilities, ultimately fostering a society where all citizens can prosper.

The ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ scheme is a government initiative designed to eliminate barriers and promote inclusivity for individuals with benchmark disabilities in Delhi. This program aims to provide aids and appliances to these individuals, such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and other assistive devices, to enhance their mobility and capabilities. The scheme seeks to create an environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive and participate fully in society. Through this program, the government hopes to empower these individuals and promote their independence and well-being.

The Delhi government is committed to creating a society where mobility is unrestricted and individuals, irrespective of their abilities, can access opportunities for growth. With the introduction of the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ initiative, the government aims to facilitate mobility and capabilities by providing durable and standardized aids and appliances. This will assist people with benchmark disabilities in overcoming physical and environmental barriers that limit their independence and participation in society.

The primary objective of the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ initiative is to empower individuals with benchmark disabilities and improve their quality of life. By providing aids and appliances that are specifically designed to meet their unique needs, the scheme aims to enhance their mobility and enable them to navigate their environment with greater ease. This will not only increase their independence but also open up opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The aids and appliances provided through the scheme are carefully selected to ensure durability and standardization. This ensures that individuals with benchmark disabilities receive high-quality products that are built to last and meet their specific requirements. The scheme covers a wide range of aids and appliances, including, but not limited to, mobility aids, hearing aids, visual aids, and assistive devices for communication and daily living activities.

To avail of the benefits of the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ scheme, individuals with benchmark disabilities can approach the designated authorities and undergo an assessment process. This process helps in determining the specific aids and appliances required by each individual based on their unique needs and circumstances. Once the assessment is complete, the aids and appliances are provided to the eligible individuals free of charge.

In order to qualify for the benefits of the scheme, individuals must have a disability that is 40 percent or higher, as verified by a disability certificate or UDID card that has been issued by a medical authority that has been authorized under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

Residents of the National Capital Territory of Delhi are eligible to apply, provided that their family’s annual income does not surpass Rs 8 lakh from all sources. Furthermore, the applicant must not have obtained the same item within the previous three years from any other Delhi government program, UT government program, Central government program, or other source,” the Delhi government stated.

The introduction of the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ initiative is a significant step towards creating an inclusive society in Delhi. By empowering individuals with benchmark disabilities and providing them with the necessary aids and appliances, the scheme aims to break down barriers and enable their active participation in various aspects of life. It is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities and a better quality of life for all citizens, irrespective of their abilities.

In conclusion, the ‘Sugamya Sahayak’ initiative introduced by the Delhi government is a commendable effort to empower individuals with benchmark disabilities. By providing aids and appliances that enhance their mobility and capabilities, the scheme aims to create a society where everyone can thrive. This initiative is a significant step towards building a more accessible and inclusive Delhi, where individuals with disabilities can fully participate and contribute to the community.
