Empowering Girl Students in Krishnagiri District: The ‘Pudhumai Penn’ Scheme

Empowering Girl Students in Krishnagiri District

The Government of Tamil Nadu has launched the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme to enhance the enrolment ratio of girls from government schools to higher education institutions. Through this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 1000/month will be provided to the girls till their completion of a UG degree, diploma, ITI, or any other recognized course. The incentive amount under this scheme will be disbursed directly into the student’s bank account.

To empower girl students in Krishnagiri district, the state government has implemented the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme, which provides financial assistance to support their college education. As per the latest update, a total of 10,759 female students in the district are currently benefiting from this scheme.

Under the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme, the government offers a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 to each girl student pursuing higher education. This financial support aims to alleviate the financial burden on families and encourage more girls to pursue their academic aspirations.

During a recent Pudhumai Penn program held at the collectorate, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, R Sakkarapani, highlighted the commitment of Chief Minister MK Stalin towards the welfare of women. In addition to the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme, the government is also taking steps to establish working women’s hostels in various districts, providing safe and affordable accommodation for working women.

As part of the program, Minister Sakkarapani distributed welfare schemes worth Rs 2.89 crore to 624 beneficiaries from the departments of horticulture and the differently-abled welfare department. Furthermore, 470 bicycles worth Rs 19.34 lakh were distributed to government higher secondary school students in Mathur, Samalpatti, and Athikanur.

The ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme has been instrumental in promoting gender equality and empowering girl students in the Krishnagiri district. It not only provides financial assistance but also sends a strong message about the importance of education for girls. By investing in their education, the government is equipping these young women with the tools they need to succeed and contribute to society.

The scheme has garnered support from various stakeholders, including District Collector KM Sarayu, Hosur MLA Y Prakash, Bargur MLA D Mathiazhagan, and Krishnagiri MP Dr. A Chella Kumar, who were present at the program. Their presence further emphasizes the significance of the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme and the government’s commitment to empowering girl students.

Education is a powerful tool that can break the cycle of poverty and pave the way for a brighter future. By providing financial assistance and support to female students, the ‘Pudhumai Penn’ scheme is playing a crucial role in ensuring equal opportunities for all. It is encouraging to see the government’s efforts in promoting education and empowering young women in Krishnagiri district.
