BHEL to Establish 2,400 MW Greenfield Thermal Power Plant in Odisha’s Jharsuguda District

BHEL to Establish 2,400 MW Greenfield Thermal Power Plant

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a leading power generation equipment manufacturer in India, has been awarded the contract to set up a new greenfield thermal power plant in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district. The project, with a capacity of 2,400 MW, will be executed by BHEL on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis.

The contract for the project was awarded by NLC India Limited, a Navaratna company under the Ministry of Coal. NLC India Limited invited competitive tenders for the construction of the power plant, and BHEL emerged as the successful bidder. The scope of the contract includes the engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of equipment such as boilers, turbines, and generators for the plant.

The upcoming thermal power plant has been planned to be set up in various stages, with the initial capacity being 800 MW which will be achieved in Stage I, which involves setting up three units of 800 MW each. Subsequently, there will be further expansions to reach the final capacity of 2,400 MW. The project aims to make a significant contribution to the power generation capacity of the region and cater to the growing demand for energy in Odisha.

The thermal power plant has the key advantage of being linked with the Talabira II and III mines of NLC India Limited for the supply of coal. This linkage is expected to ensure a steady supply of fuel for the thermal power plant, which in turn will enable reliable and uninterrupted power generation. The use of domestic coal reserves in the project also aligns with the government’s vision of promoting energy self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imported coal.

Overall, the project is expected to bring about a much-needed boost to the power generation capacity of the region, which will go a long way in meeting the energy needs of Odisha.

BHEL, with its extensive experience in the power sector, is well-equipped to undertake the construction of the thermal power plant. The company has a proven track record of delivering high-quality power generation equipment, and its expertise in engineering and project management will be instrumental in the successful execution of the project.

The establishment of the greenfield thermal power plant in Jharsuguda district will not only boost the local economy but also create employment opportunities for the residents. The construction phase of the project will require a significant workforce, providing job opportunities in the region. Additionally, the operation and maintenance of the power plant will also generate employment for skilled professionals.

The establishment of the 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power plant by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in the Jharsuguda district of Odisha is a significant development that will have a positive impact on the region’s overall growth and progress. The new power plant is expected to provide a reliable and uninterrupted source of electricity, which is crucial for the growth of various sectors, including industries, agriculture, and residential areas.

The availability of an affordable and uninterrupted power supply is essential for the socio-economic development of any region, and with the new power plant, the energy demands of the region are expected to be met. The increased power generation capacity will not only support the development of various sectors but also contribute to the socio-economic progress of Odisha.

The project has been awarded by NLC India Limited and is expected to be executed efficiently, thanks to BHEL’s expertise and the availability of coal linkage. The project’s execution will ensure a reliable and sustainable power supply for the future, which is crucial for the region’s overall development.

All in all, the establishment of the new power plant is a significant step towards meeting the growing energy demands of the region, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the region’s overall growth and progress.
